We’ve moved in to our sweet new office space on Wharf Road in Penzance, overlooking the harbour and St Michael’s Mount beyond the harbour wall.
The low winter sunshine pours in along the glazed façade; there’s an extra fancy new Italian coffee machine serving up scrumptious flat whites; and the place is filling up with our wonderful plant collection. We’re all super-happy to be in our new workspace!
It already feels like home for our team. We moved in just before the Christmas break and though there is a bit of snagging here and there to finish the space to absolute perfection, we could not be more delighted with our new home. Being modern, accessible and open plan, it feels as though the office is a true representation and reflection of us and our values. The space allows greater collaboration within the team, with different co-working and solo-focus spaces available to use.
We’re a forward thinking, conscientious and hard-working but playful bunch. We love what we do – helping clients to build their best lives – and now we love where we do it too!
We’re grateful to all the local trades who transformed our shell into what it is today – not least NSN who project managed and co-ordinated the whole thing.
We’ve been very fortunate to benefit from grant funding as part of the UK Government’s Town Deal fund, Cornwall Council’s Enterprise Grants Programme and the Penzance Town Fund. With that money, we have bought sound-proof booths, new furniture and upgraded much of our IT.
As the sun dips in the sky and dusk begins to settle, we are treated to the most stunning murmuration of starlings, dancing in the twilight sky. Passers-by gather outside with phone cameras held aloft, gazing in awe at nature’s beauty. The birds form large clouds fluttering to-and-fro until they eventually hunker down in the trees across the road, chirruping away in chorus. In fact, we’ve named our meeting rooms after local birds in their honour: Starling for the front meeting room that looks out over the murmuration; Swallow for the one that sits behind it; and the sound-proof booths have been named Kingfisher, Sanderling and Puffin.
We even have funky new handle-less mugs for those delicious coffees we serve up. Admittedly, Paul Jackson is not sold on those yet but as someone who insists on taking his own bone-china mug along with him on holiday, I don’t know if we will ever completely convert him, however cool they are.
The Tuesday Run Club - currently comprised of Sharon, Mark and Elliot - had their first lunchtime jog down to Newlyn along the prom last Tuesday and initial reviews of the shower in the accessible bathroom were good. This quickly attracted a couple more of the team with Colleen and Tom joining the run crew. We now just need to figure out the best order of play for the shower!
The standing desks are extremely popular with all, with the option to sit or stand to work from the same desk space. We had the added bonus of a team building event setting them up. Flat-pack furniture with electronic components could be considered a true test of tenacity, problem-solving and skill for sure!
We’ve even managed to sneak in a few bonus Jemojis – cut into the screening along the front windows. And, you’d never know it without taking the devices off the wall, but TC enjoyed hiding some smiley faces made from Velcro behind the WiFi access points!
When the colourful murals (currently in design phase with @lisa_made_it) are complete, they will add some additional vibrancy and life to the office. It feels like such a celebration of a space – celebrating the new Jacksons, our values, our team and our excitement for the next phase of the company.
We couldn’t be happier and we’re excited to show it off to you soon! We’ll be hosting an open day in the spring, so stay tuned for that!
